Add or edit service descriptions
You can add or edit a monitor’s description to provide extra context for your team. This description appears as a tooltip when hovering over the monitor name in your Monitors list.
Why use descriptions
Descriptions are helpful for adding internal notes, such as:
- Clarifying what part of the service is critical for your operations (e.g., "Used only for payment gateway API").
- Specifying internal ownership (e.g., "Maintained by DevOps team – contact Alex for issues").
- Highlighting dependencies (e.g., "Relies on SSO integration with Okta").
Add or edit a description
- Go to the Monitors page.
- Find the monitor you want to update and click the three-dot menu.
- Select Configure.
- Under Description, enter or update the note you want displayed as a tooltip.
- Click Save.
The updated description will now appear when you hover over the service name in the Monitors list.
