StatusGator is designed to provide accurate, timely, and trustworthy service status data so you can make informed decisions and respond quickly to incidents.

This article explains how we ensure reliability in our monitoring and alerts.

Frequent and consistent checks

• We monitor over 6,000 official status pages every 5 minutes using a network of automated "checkers".
• Depending on the provider, we collect data through:
  • Official APIs
  • Undocumented or reverse-engineered APIs
  • Parsing HTML status pages

Resilient monitoring

• Our website and ping monitoring runs from multiple regions to avoid false positives caused by local network issues.
• If a status page changes format or becomes unreachable, we detect it automatically switch to a different interface. If custom changes are required, the change is escalated to on-call engineering team for 24/7/365 response.

Early warning detection

• For all services, even those without official status pages (marked with an Unofficial icon), we use:
  • Custom detection algorithms
  • Community-reported incidents
  • Third-party signals
• These methods allow us to generate Early Warning Signals — possible outages detected before the provider posts an update.

Accuracy grading

• Each monitored service receives a status page accuracy grade based on how promptly its official page reflects real outages.
• Grades are updated daily and calculated over a rolling 90-day window.
• This helps you assess how much trust to place in each provider’s official status.

Community-powered reporting

• Users can manually report outages directly from the monitor’s details page.
• These reports feed into our anomaly detection system, improving Early Warning Signals for all users.

Transparent and visible data

• All incidents, maintenance events, and status changes are logged and visible in the History tab for each monitor.
• The amount of history you can view depends on your plan.
