Add a service monitor
A service monitor tracks the official status page of a third-party provider and updates in real time when incidents, maintenance, or status changes are posted.
StatusGator collects this information, normalizes it into our standard status levels (Up, Warn, Down, Maint), and displays it on your board and status page.
How to add a service monitor
Go to your board
Log in to your StatusGator account and open the board where you want to add the monitor.
Click “Add monitor”
This will open the monitor type selection.
Choose “Service monitor”
Select the Service monitor option to search our database of 6,000+ supported services.
Find the service
You can:
- Search by name – Use the search bar to quickly locate the service or app you want to monitor.
- Browse the Service Directory – View all supported services grouped by category and use case. This is especially convenient if you want to explore available monitors and see each service’s current status at a glance.
Tip: If you can’t find the service you want to monitor in StatusGator’s Service Directory, you can request that we add it.
Select the service
Click the service name to open the monitor configuration screen.
Configure the monitor
- General tab – Set a display name, add an optional description, and upload a custom icon if you want.
- Component filters tab – Choose whether to monitor all components or select specific ones (see Filtering components below).
- Notifications tab– Choose which incident types should trigger alerts:
- Major incidents – Service or component is Down.
- Minor incidents – Service or component is Warn.
- Maintenance incidents – Service or component is in Maint status (available only if the provider publishes this information).
- Upcoming maintenance – Planned downtime alerts (available only if the provider publishes this information).
- Early Warning Signals – Possible outages detected by StatusGator before provider confirmation.
Click Save
Your new service monitor will appear on your board and begin tracking the provider’s status page.
Filtering components
After adding a service monitor, you can choose to monitor all components or only specific ones.
This step is important for reducing noise and ensuring you only get alerts for the parts of the service you actually use.
Some services like AWS or Salesforce have hundreds or even thousands of components. In those cases, you’ll need to search by name, product, or region (for example, N. Virginia or EU West) to find the ones that matter to you.
To filter components:
- Go to the monitor’s Component Filterstab — you can access it either:
- By clicking the three dots menu next to the monitor name and selecting Configure, then navigating to the Component Filters tab.
- Or by clicking the component icon next to the monitor name in the table.
- Choose Monitor all components or Filter to specific components.
- If filtering, search for and select the components you want to monitor.
- Click Save.
Note: Services without an official status page (These are marked with an X icon next to their logo) don’t have an official component list, the Components tab will not be available.
What happens next
- StatusGator will check the provider’s official status page at regular intervals.
- Any changes (including Early Warning Signals) will be reflected on your board and status page.
- If you have notifications enabled, you’ll receive alerts via your chosen channels.
