Understanding monitor statuses

StatusGator standardizes vendor status information into four clear monitor states. These states are based on the incident details reported by providers and make it easy to quickly understand the impact.

Status definitions

  • Down – Used for incidents labeled Outage, Downtime, or Major Incident (often shown in red).
  • Warn – Used for incidents such as Partial Outage, Degraded Service, or Minor Incident. It also includes Informational alerts. These are typically shown in yellow or orange.
  • Maintenance – Used for scheduled maintenance events that usually have low user impact.
  • Up – Indicates the service is functioning normally and without degraded performance.

How statuses are assigned

Each service provider uses its own terms and visual styles to describe outages or incidents. StatusGator normalizes these into the four standardized states above, so you always see a consistent and reliable view of your monitors.

Why this matters

Standardizing statuses provides:

  • Clear visibility across different providers.
  • Fast recognition of the severity of an issue.
  • Consistent alerting and reporting behavior across all monitors.
