Configure a ping monitor

After adding a ping monitor, you can customize its settings to match your needs. You can change its name, description, icon, timeout, monitoring regions, alert sensitivity, and more.

Open the configuration menu

  1. Go to Monitors from your left menu.
  2. Find the ping monitor you want to update.
  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the right side.
  4. Select Configure.

This opens the configuration screen with two tabs: General and Settings.

General tab

  • Hostname or IP Address – Enter the host you want to monitor (for example, 8.8.8.8 or example.com).
  • Display Name – The name shown in your monitor list.
  • Description – Add a short description for internal context or for status page visitors. Once saved, the description appears as an info icon next to the monitor name – viewers can hover over it to read your note.
  • Group – Assign selected monitor to a group for better organization
  • Icon – Upload a custom PNG, JPG, WEBP, or GIF (up to 500KB).
  • Metadata – Add arbitrary key/value tags (e.g. team, owner, project). Included in API responses and webhook payloads.
  • Delete monitor – Remove the monitor if you no longer need it.

Settings tab

Here you can adjust how StatusGator monitors the host.

Basic

  • Select interval – How often the ping monitor runs (1–5 minutes).
  • Check locations – Choose which global monitoring regions to ping from.
  • Alert condition – Decide if alerts trigger when all locations fail, or if any location fails.

Advanced

  • Timeout – How long StatusGator waits for a ping reply before marking it as down (5–60 seconds).
  • Alert sensitivity – Number of consecutive failed checks required before sending an alert.

Remove or pause a ping monitor

If you no longer need this monitor, you can:

  • Click Delete monitor at the bottom of the General tab, or
  • Go to the Monitors page, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the ping monitor, and select Delete Monitor.

If you only want to stop monitoring temporarily, you can pause the ping monitor instead of deleting it. Paused monitors can be resumed at any time from the same menu.
