Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

StatusGator now supports Two-Factor Authentication, often called 2FA, a more secure way of signing into your account. Using an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or a password manager like 1Password, you can now protect your StatusGator account with a second authentication factor, a one-time password (OTP) that you enter after signing in.

Organization owners can require organization members, outside collaborators, and billing managers to enable two-factor authentication for their personal accounts, making it harder for malicious actors to access an organization's repositories and settings.

Here’s how:

1. Install Google Authenticator from either the Apple App Store or the Android Google Play store, or Authy mobile app. It's free.

2. Next, set up two-step verification on your StatusGator account. Click on your profile icon in the upper-right corner of your StatusGator board and click the Your profile menu option.

3. Click on the Two-Factor Authentication tab.

StatusGator will show you a screen with a QR code. Use your authenticator app to scan the QR code. Or, enter the code below the QR code manually into the app.

Note: scanning the QR code with your camera won't work here, you will need any authenticator app installed on your phone to scan it.

If you're scanning the code, please follow the image instructions below:

If you're setting up manually, refer to the images below:

4. Enter generated OTP code and your profile password. Once ready, enable Two-factor authentication, and its done! Save generated backup codes, in case you loose access to your 2FA device.

5. When you log in to your StatusGator account, you'll need to enter the OTP code from your 2FA mobile app. If you lose access to your 2FA device and backup code, just contact us for help.

Note: a one-time pin (OTP) or, in other words, one-time code from the authenticator app will be valid for only 10-20 seconds (depends on each app) and if you do not manage to use it within that expiration period, the authenticator app will generate a new code for you to use.

Important: if you lost your backup codes or a device with the Two-Factor Authentication set up, just contact us and we will help you disable it on your StatusGator account.
